FEDERAL PREMIERS' CONFERENCE
STATES HARD PRESSED. TWENTY 'MILLIONS REQUIRED. LOCKING THE MURRAY RIVER. Received 5, 1.25 a.m. Melbourne, November 5. The conference of Federal State Ministers is unfinished. The discussion on the financial position disclosed that several of the States were hard pressed lor money as the result of the war and other factors, their various requirements totalling about twenty millions. Mr Wisher announced that tho Imperial Government was prepared to uecure money through a loan redeemable at a convenient period.
The conference decided that Mr. Fisher should consult the Imperial authorities, so as to ascertain the amount* available. The conference also discussed the locking of the Kivur Murray, and unifying the railway gauge. The Federal Government is prepared to Hud a million towards the Murray scheme.
