RE MODERATES.
Sir, —I think "Civis'" method of reasoning re the above is Tory shallow. 1 have always read t'liat "bhcre is moderation in all tiling" That the only supporters of the liquor trade ara tho.se who like it, and those who are financially interested, seems to me to be absjlute piffle. 'Because a man gets the drink craze, it seems that we must close all hotels. One might as well say tlia,t if a person gets the picture craze it will be necessary to close all pictiure theatres. To my mind, it is only on« of many worse evils. I wonder wliat we will have to forfeit in order to makj up the defiuensy in revenue due to closing the hot.el.s» As to the "misery suffered iby wobwti and children in St. Mary's parish," I have seen very little of it, and I do not go about with my eyei shut. I do not wish- to argue in ilhi* matter, as it is a sore point with most people, but merely to point out facts which ar e not "hot air."—l am, et#., MODERATE.
