The Hawera Star reports the death of Mr. H. E. P. Adams, of Patea. He had been ill for some considerable time paet, and a few weeks ago came to Hawera for the purpose of submitting to an operation. But on his return home, though he seemed to rally a. little, it was only too apparent that the end .was not far off. He passed away yes-

terday. Mr. Adams was very generally respected throughout the district with I which he had been associated for a great j 11 any years. The death is announced at Syde by the Times of September 9 of Captain John H. Jellicoe, father of Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, in his 90th year. Captain Jellicoe was for many years in the service of the Royal Mail Company, and for some time Commodore of its fleet. He retired from active service about 20 years ago, and was afterwards a director of the Royal Mail Company. In addition to Sir John Jellicoe, Captain Jellicoe leaves a son, the Rer. Frederick Jellicoe, and two daughters. ; Mr. W. L. Kennedy, J.P., of Stratford, r arrived in England, via New York (says I a London paper of recent date), and has sinco been to Scotland, where, in Ayrshire, ho was the guest at Finnast House of the Chief of the Kennedies. He next visited relatives in the North of Ireland for a month, afterwards spending some time in the Midlands with an old prominent New Zealander, Mr. Monkhouse. He hoped to sail on September 11, by the Orama. Mr. Kennedy undertook tire trip mainly do see iris aged, parents, whom; he liad ifo-t visited for thirty-five years.

He was born in Yorkshire, England, but spent the greater parit of his early life in Edinburgh and Peebles' (Scotland). After completing his education, he was engaged in engineering works in Liverpool, and in 1876 came out to New Zealand. Ho purchased the well-known Waireka farm, on the Wanganui river, opDoaite Upokongaro, where 'he resided 'till the time of his death. Apart from farming, the late Mr. Robertson took an aotive interest in all that, tended to the advancement of the country.
