BOWLING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. A progressive pairs tournament was I played on the New Plymouth green; yesterday. There was- a splendid -muster of members, and the full green, was occupied. The "progressive'' scheme ;has taken a firm hold, and yesterday's gathering was very enjoyable. The I prizes, which were donated by Messrs P. W. J lull and A. K. Smart, were won by I Mes.-.rs I''. Plimitreo (skip's) and J. ! MeLcod (leads). The law of the mat is causing a little trouble in nearly all clubs nH'ccted by the new' rule. A Feililin.' player writing 9* the subject says: The t\vo-feet-on-llie mat delivery is bahcring a number of our players, but they are ,keeping their best foot back in a strong cfl'ort to comply with the rule, which clearly states that both feet 'shall" be on the mat wiii'n the bowl is delivered 1 . But the mat has lo be 40 inches loug and 20 inches wide. There is no doubt tile enforcement of the rule will >be good for • the wearing of the green. lIAWEUA v. WAITAR'A. Hawera, and Wailara (,'lubs played a match at Waitara vis.terday. The green was in very fair order for so early in the season, and tin* day's play was very enjoyable. Hawera won '.y !)ll to SO.
