OUR MEN IX SAMOA. CASES OF SICKNESS. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, October 26, The Governor has received a communication from the Administrator of ' Samoa, dated October 24, reporting as to (he health of the troops at Samoa, to the following effect:—"The general health is good. Sergeant Brockett, of V" the sth Regiment, who was suffering from pneumonia, is now convalescent. ' Lieutenant Lankshear, Lance-Corporal Boddington, and Private Hornsby are suffering from dysentery, and James Cullinghiuu from fever. Railway Engineers.—Lieutenant Christophers, LanceCorporal Tangney, and Privates Alison and Beer are suffering from fever. Broughton from rheumatism, Small and Stanley from dysentery, Corporal Collier from colitis. Field Engineers.—Q.M.S. Lewis is suffering from fever. . Army Service Corps.—Sergeant Anderson and Private Quaylc are suffering from fevefc All are doing well. BRITISH AND BELGIAN POOR. HELP FROM ASIIBURTON. Ashburton, Last Night. Labour Day was observed as a close holiday, and was taken advantage of to /.-.'v hold a big patriotic demonstration. This was originally organised by the local ' corps of the • Salvation Army, but afterwards the local Britain and Belgium Relief Fund Committee and leading business men took charge of the arrangements. In tho forenoon a lengthy pro* cession, including spectacular displays, bands, fire brigade, Boy Scout-., and Territorials, marched from the iraffio. Bridge to the Domain, where patriotia speeches were made by Mr W. Nosworthy, M.P., Rev. J. Paterson (ot Christchurch), and Rev, J. R, Burgift (1 There was a long programme of sports. The 2000 people present resolved them- v selves into a big picnic party, The Christchurch Salvation Army Band was present, and considerably enlivened tho proceedings. Tho proceeds aro to be divided equally lietween the funds, and it is expected that both will be heavily; augmented. '

Blenheim, Last Night). The Marlborough war fund totals £2860, and the 'Poor in Britain and Belgium Fund £IO7O. Mr. 11. N. Linrdet, manager of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation, has received advice that tilt London board • of directors passed tae .following resolution on August 11 last: , —"That leuve of absence be granted to any member of the staff (male or female) who may be called or volunteer for military, liaval, or other allied service. That during absence full pay b« allowed, and reinstatement permitted on return." So far 274 officials of the staff have gone to the front.
