White-bait fishers report some rare cathes lately at the mouth of the liaupokonui riyer. The gale that sprang up during Saturday night stopped our achnapper fishing enthusiasts from going in the briny on Sunday. feed is very backward for this time of the year. Given a few nice, mild days, the milk bounds up, but is soom checked again by the southerly winds which are so prevalent in this district. Friends of Mrs A. Clarke will be pleased to learn that she is hastening towards recovery, and it is the wish of all in this district that she will soon become strong again. Mr V. Ross, having completed a cottage for Messrs Joyce, at Otakeho, and also one for Mr Buxton, of Auroa, is now building one to too order of Mr Crowley, on the Palmer road. The filling on the Skeet road which the county employees are doing give* them many a happy few minute 3. along comes some stranger in a motor-car. He enquires if it is alright, and needless to say, is accorded a vigorous "Oh, yes!" So he makes a dash for it and down he goes. v The "boysjV eager to show their respect to any fellow-workmen, all assembled at the Taikatu factory last Monday night with their tin cans to give "Tommy" a serenade on the occasion of liis marriage. They were treated right loyally, and, after drinking the health of the bride and bridegroom, and having a "sing-song," they came away singing "For He'» a Jolly Good Fellow." What caused the residents a bit of anxiety in this district was a couple of steamers holering around for a couple of days, fairly close in. I venture to say that if one shot had been fired, the old rata tree that wc have heard so much about up at the mountain would be tenanted to its fullest capacity.

It was left to the chairman and Mr. Pease to report on the night of the socials as to where depots have been established, and which would be the more suitable, Eltliura or Hawcra.
