DISTRICT NEWS.

AUROA. (From Our Own Correspondents). The first annual meeting of the Auroa Lawn Tennis and Bowling Club waß 'held on Saturday, about thirty, members being, present. The following officers were elected: President, Mr D. M. Poole; vice-president, Mr A. C. Johnstone; treasurer, Mr T. R. Julian; secretary, Mr D. Penny. Members expressed themselves as being entirely satisfied with the position of the Club. Taking all things into consideration, your subscriber thinks they ought to be proud of the position, for, after laving out about £2OO, the Club is less than £SO overdrawn. It was a treat to go to the factory on Sunday morning and meet the fanners after the welcome rain we had on Saturday night, and which at time of writing is still steadily pouring down. I am informed that Mr Hayward has completed his contract with the Kaupokonui Dairy Factory in respect to the water-race, and that the same contractor has secured the first contract of the Opunake railway. The South Taranaki Bacon Coy. surely will soon be shifting the receiving yards from the present site, as they not only look unsightly alongside our fine factory, but will probably create a nuisance when the manager's house is erected. One morning recently a local farmer, thinking some of his cows were not doing too well, thought he would give her a bottle of oil, and no sooner had he done it than the poor beast dropped dead, tfow tho lamenting cockie thinks it best to leave "well" alone. The residents of this district arc beginning to realise now that the morning paper is "the" thing, aa they can get it while at the factory, and have the news at least eight or nine hours earlier. The motorist tells me that tho people »re waiting in mobs for him throughout tho Waimate district and "y&vr own" appeals to everybody to support such an energetic move on the part of the management °* the "News."
