Tlic rt"iirns of business transacted in the Local Mlagislrate's Court lor the quarter ending September 30 last show tiiiit there were twelve sittings of (lie Civil Court held by the >Magis;rate, 30 sittings of the Criminal Oourt, and two sittings by Justices of the Peace. Tift number of civil eases beard by UnMagistrate was 84, the aggregate amount sued for being £1079 Mis lid, of which £IOOS 4s 5d was recovered, ipic nujnber of plaints being Ifil. Ten distress warrants were issued, and 20 judgment summonses, seven judgment orders siiade, and one committal order issued. Tho fees amounted to £7O 15s, exclusive of licensing fees, £i Ids. Fifteen old age pensions and tive widows' pensions were graMted, four Rpplicatiuins tor pensions being refused. Of the 'Mi criminal eases, two Were for offences against the pea-son, 10 for thefts, flic., one for perjury, 32 for drunkenness, vagrancy, etc." and 51 for other offences. There were 45 convictions, and eight prohibition orders issued. The criminal fees and fines received amounted to £47 lfis (id. For the corresponding quarter last year there were 110 eases.
