DISTRICT NEWS.

TARIKI, (From Oar, Own Correspondent). The bae&clnrs' ball, which -was givere in the hall on; the 9th inst., will long be ■rciiMn'bCTed; as onei «f ihe most successful social functions ever held here. Th»so who are familiar with flie somewhat rough appearance- of uhe interior i -of cur toil were thrilled with amazement at the vista of beaut;' which greeted the eye on entering. The bare bCu'Js sod unlined walls were hidden tnshind beautifully arranged punga fronds and clematis. Graceful festoons relieved- the bareness of the ceiling, and national flags, tastefully draped, lent a martial air to the otherwise fairy-like appeaTaneo of the ball-roomi The- guests; many of whom came from considerabledistances away, were unanimous in their praises of the completo arrangement made for their comfort and entertainment. The floor was perfect, and the music, supplied by Mr A. Matthews' orchestra, was all that could 1 be desired. A rcchereiio supper was served in the new supper room, the tables being tastefully decorated with spring flowers. Altogether, the Tariki bachelsrs, who3e committee consisted of Messrs G. Ackland, J. Roche, L. Smith, E, James, R. •James, Swatsfengor, T. Shreldor, Chapman, G. Huckcr, F. Smith, and A. N. Other, are to be congratulated on their magnificent effort. Bachelors, however, have their disabilities, and in making arrangements and conducting a social function of su&h- magnitude, they had per force to seek the aid of the fair sex, who generously came to their assistance, and deserve a euoto o.f praise for the unqualified success of the hall. Amongst I the ladies on the committee, were the Misses Davidson, H. 6mith, Fabish (2), Summers, Mather, Langman, G. Lavrrenee, and E. Lawrence; Mesdameg M. Jones, Knowbjß, and Spray, assisted in the supper room. Mr G. Ackland carried out the onerous duties of M.C. so- well that I hear the opinion was freely expressed amongst the ladies that it is high time he deserted the bachelor contingent and joined the noble army of benedicts.
