WOMAN LIVES IN A BURROW.
IN THE AUCKLAND DOMAIN. By Telegraph,—Per Press Association. Auckland, October 8. A strange story was told by- a woman who was taken into custody by the police on a charge of vagrancy. She is a single woman, 32 years of age, and has relatives in Wellington. She states that she came to Auckland to visit the Exhibition, and stayed in a boardinghouse until she had spent her money, and then took shelter in the Domain, where she had been living in a burrow lined with a remarkable collection of dishes and other vessels, which, with rags of clothing, afforded evidences of a prolonged stay. She remained in hiding during the day time and foraged for food at night. Apparently she has some education, and does not display signs of mental weakness.
