N.Z. ATHLETIC AND CYCLING. UNION. TARANAKI CENTRE. Tlie aniual meeting of tlie Taranaki centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held at Eltham on .Monday night, when there were present: Messrs ,las. McLeod (New Plymouth), in the chair; ,1. it. Thompson (Stratford). T. C. Stanners (Eltham). W. A. Curteis (Mangatoki), D. Malone (Uiverlea), das. Garcia (Uahotu) and A. Hansen (secretary).
The balance-sheet was considered very satisfactory, the number of registrations being a gratifying feature, as was also the small number of outstanding fees. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. 0/liccrs were elected as follows:--Patron, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P.; president, .Mr. J. Clarke (New Plymouth); >ice-presidenls: Messrs .1. 11. Thompson (Stratford) and T. Taylor (Uiverlea); executive, Messrs .las. McLeod (New Plymouth), D. Malone (Uiverlea), W. A. Curteis (Mangatoki I. .1. Garcia (Ualiotu), T. C, Stanners (Eltham), G. M. Skclton (Waitara), .1. Oibbs (Inglewood), A. Beeslcy (Fit(mm), J. D. Pralitt (Alton); secretary. Mr. J. A. Hansen (Eltham); auditor. Mr E. Parrott. The secretary was voted n bonus of £3 .'ls for extra work done during the year. Mr Reira. the retiring auditor, was voted a fee of £2 -2s.
Th question of endeavoring to have the New Zealand championship meeting of l'.'lli held in Taranaki was discussed, and will be kept in view. At a subsequent meeting of the executive, -Air J. 11. Thompson was re-elected chairman.
EXECUTIVE MFETING. Prior to the annual meeting, a meeting of the executive was held, when there were present: Messrs J. 11. Thompson (chairman). .1. McLeod. ,J. Garcia, T, C. Stanners, W. A. Curteis, and the secretary, Mr A Hansen. .It was resolved to disqualify C. Young, of Stratford, for life, for falsely signing a declaration at Kaponga that he was a maiden runner. Regret was expressed that a prosecution could not be instituted, as the runner has nowjoined the Expeditionary Force. In connection wtll the protest by W. S. Syme, that the Wliangamomona Sports .Club had not paid out the money or the points, prize, it was decided to accept the explanation from the club, that owing to the paucity of entriesthree in each event—it had been decided, prior to the events being run, not to award a points prize. The chairman, referring to the absence of Mr J. Clarke in England, remarked that it was something unique for Mr Clarke to be absent from an athletic meeting. The secretary was voted tlie usual honorarium for the past 11 months, and eulogistic reference was made to his services in. fostering sport generally.
The chairman was also accorded a vote of th«nks.
