TIRONGA CLUB. The first annual meeting of the Tironga Tennis Club was held at Vojreltown on Monday evening, Mr G. W. Browne presiding. ANNUAL REPORT.
The annual report was as follows: Your committee liave much pleasure in | presenting to you the first annual report and balance-sheet of this club. It will be as well, perhaps, to brielly refer here to the formation of the club, as several matters relating to its early history canrot obviously be iilaced in the mimilebook. Towards the latter end of October last year, Mrs Kenbow kindly placed the use of her lawn at the disposal of the residents of Vqgeltown if tliey caved to make use of it. An informal meeting of those interested was held, and it was decided to call a general meeting of residents with a view to forming a small tennis club. The meeting was held, and the idea of the formation of a club was taken up very enthusiastically. The outcome of these preliminaries was that a club was formed, with a membership of eight gentlemen and 10 ladies. The committee at'once proceeded to get the necessary material and to get the ground in order. In consequence of a short spell of bad weather, the opening of the courts was delayed until Saturday,' November 2!). During tho season it was felt that a permanent home for the club should be secured, and after various properties had been looked at, the section next to Mrs Benhow's was secured, and three grass courts were laid oiit. l-'o.-.r inter-club matches were played during the season against the Woodleigh Chili, and proved very instructive and interesting, and it is hoped that a fnrtii -r series will be arranged during the coming season. A ladies' and a gentlemen's tournament were arranged amongst tV members, but owing to various unavoidable circumstances these were never finished. In future an earlier start in the season should be made for any tournaments that should' be arranged. The thanks of the club are due to Mr C. Randrup, who kindly acted as haudicupper.
Tlio chairman reviewed at. length fie first year's operations of the dill), and dealt with its position in regard to tile freehold property wind) liad been purchased during the year, and Tin which three eourts hat] been laid down. So fnr as the prospects of the chili were, concerned, lie felt that they could look forward to a substantial increase in membership. He moved the adoption of the report. Oiliccrs were elected a* follow for the ensuing year:—President, Mr CI. W. Browne; vice-president, Mr W. .1donke; committee. Messrs If. V. S. Crif(itiis. W. lierridge, with power to add io their number, and witli oll'ieer- exnllicio: secretarv and treasurer, Mr 1\ 11. Ham; audilor, Mr i.\. T. Moore.
