N.Z. SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS.

TARAXAKI KRANCJI. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above branch was hold at the Town Hall, Nc.w Plymouth, last night, >lr. Hugh Baiiy prosidJi.g. The annual report was as follows: — The branch was started early in 1913, and June 13, lUl+, marks the close of the first complete year of its existence. It can. fairly be claimed that tho branch has done good wortc during this time, particularly in bringing practising accoimtanta into touch with one another, and by giving l opportunities for exchange of ideas and the discussion of practical, everyday difficulties and fostering good-fellowship between them. During the period four General meetings ikavo teen held, and have been well atItended. Papers read include: "The Chattels Transfer Act, 1008," by Mr. David Hutchen; "The Uajlk-ruiptcy Act, 1908," by Mr. A. 11. Johnstone; "Om-ir-orisenso -in Accounts," by Mr. Hugh liaily; and an addrros by Mr, L. M. Monteath upon the aims and objects of tho Society. Of committee meetings six were held, at which of lucml and general interest wero discussed. The lack of facilities for students obtaining personal tuition, owing tot tho scattered nature of the district, has to a great extent hindered the formation of an Accountants' Student Society. During the year <the local library haa beeu established in the Carnegie Institute Buildings under the supervision of the librarian. Country -members have availed themadvcfe to only a limited extent of the arrangements made for posting jbooflcs to themi, but doubtless this matter will adjust itself in the future." Tile president, in moving the adoption of tho report, regretted' that it had been found impracticable for students to obtain personal tuition, but the numbers were too small and the students too scattered to enable tho tuition- to be given. Mr. Monteath reported that the meeting of thu Council had been adjourned sine die, so that there was nothing to report. The members of the retiring Council wero re-elected. At tho suggestion of Mr. Tribe, Mr. Monteath was ruquested to move the Council to keep on the books the names of the members who 'have joined the Kxneditionary Forces. A vote of thanks was accorded to the outgoing officers.
