Tho chairman, in congratulating the band on the sound financial condition as set forth in the balance-sheet, which shows a credit balance in the bank of £3l lis fid, slated that since the inception of the band in 1!I00 thev had never been on the wrong side of the ledger, a position almost unique in the history of local bands. In May of this year the band liad been extremely fortunate in securing the services of a first-class conductor from England, in the person of Mr F. E. Woods, who is a champion cornetist, and ranks as one of the foremost conductors in tho Dominion. Since Mr Woods took charge, the .band -had made rapid strides under his 'baton, and was already able to take its place amongst tho contesting bands of the Dominion. As evidence of this fact, it was tlie band's intention to compete in tha Napier contest in February next. On behalf of the band, the chairman made an appeal for the whole-hearted support of the p"r.plc of Kaponga and district, as, notwithstanding the healthy financial condition of tho band at present, it would in the near future have SoTtw heavy responsibilities to face. This was in reference to the purchase of new uniforms, and some new instruments. In making this appenl, the chairman stated that the hand w:is ahvavs ready and willing to do its duty to the public, and a band was in every way a very creditahlu and deserving institution to support. Tenders for uniforms were received, and a committee was appointed to deal with their selection and purchase without delay. The meeting, which was in entire harmony throughout, ended in a vote of thanks to tho chair.
