On Monday 21st, at my Urcnui yards, I .had a small entry of store cattle and a good number of good quality springing heifers. The enquiry was good for all classes, practically everything being cleared. Good springing heifers were much in demand at an advance in prices from the last sale from £1 10s to £2 per head, for the big heifers close up, but vendors must not expect much advance in price of the small 2-yr. olds. Small yearling heifers made from £1 to £1 15s; empty 20mos- heifers, £3 2s; 2-yr. steers, £4 12s; small store cows, £2 8s to £3; good store cows, £4 4s to £4 13s; forward cows, £5 lCs to £(i 4s Gd; cows and calves, £4 IBs to £5; dairy cows, £0 ss; best 3-yr. springing heifers, £7 2s 6d to £8 10s; good "heifers, £5 15s to £0 10s; fair quality, £4 10s to £ 5 10s; small heifers, aiul backward, £2 10s to £4 7s (id; fat wethers, £1 4s 9d; weaner pigs, 13s Gd; store pigs, £1 4s Gd to £1 13s 6d. At Stratford on Tuesday for my weekly springing heifer sale, I had a good .entry of springers and a representative attendance of buyers. A choice springing heifer made £11; others, best, made from £0 to £7 10s; good heifers, £5 10s to £5 15s; smaller sorts, £3 10s to £5. Matthews, Garni in and Co. (report a good yarding at their Inglewood yards last Wednesday. Prices for all clas»es showed an increase on late rates, steers and forward cows being in very good deni:iud. Prices as follows:—Springing heifers, £4 to £5 ss; good sorts, £0 lOw to £7 15s; dairy cows, £5 5s to £0 15s: store cows, £4 5s to £-5 ss; fat do., £7 7i; light cows, £3 15s to £4; 2-year gteorn/f-l Is; yoarling do.. £3 Is to £3 IDs (an extra good line); heifers, 32s 0d to 30, fid; colored do.. £2 Is to £2 0s; ewes and lambs, 21s 2d. Qn Monday last we held a horse fair in Ladbrook's stables, and had a good entry, good milk-carters and plough horses boing in good demand, anil of which we sold a good number at the following prieis:—Good milk cartora, £lO 10s to £25; lighter sorts, £lO 10s to £ls; harness horses, £0 to £l7 10s; hacks, £1 to £8; weeds, £2 to £3. We also sold the draught stallion Donald McCormick to a local client at a satisfactory figure.
Fat lambs—Eleven of the new season's lambs were yarded and sold up to 275. Pigs—7o iat pigs and 163 stores were yarded, and sold at about the eame prices as last week. OIAKI. At Otaki woolly hoggets mado 15s 2d to l'Bs lid, mixed yearling cattle £2 2s to £2 3s fid, weaner calves 20s to 31s, 2'/ 2 to 3-year steers £4 lis to £B, store cows £3 10s to £4 10s, light fat cows (good enquiry) £7 to £7 15s, empty heifers (good) £5 to £6, medium do. £3 l(is. A large entry of dairy heifers came forward, and bidding for this class of stock was rather inclined to drag. Sales were effected at from £4 to £6 18a. Bulla made £O.
