THE HUNTLY MINE.
OPERATIONS TO BE RECOMMENCED. By Telegraph.—Prcs, Association. Auckland, Last Night. The mining of coal at Iluntly has been completely suspended since the disastrous explosion 0 a September 13, but arrangements have been made by tho directors of the Taupiri Coalmines, Ltd., with a view to the restoration "of tho industry us quickly as possible. Mr. E. W. Alison (chairman of dlreetoiK) paid to-day that it is expected that work will be resumed in the Extended mine on Wednesday, and thou«i jfc is probable that operations will he limited to one shift, it is hoped that the two-shift system will soon be established again. In this mine an adequate supply of safety lamps has now been secured, those ordered from Sydney having ur--1 ived by tho Maheno. No damage was caused by tho explosion in the Extended rnine ; ag the barrier between it and Ralpn mine has been preserved as a protection. Mr. Alison said that owinc to tho loss of so many officials by ths disaster, there will be difficulty in complying vritli the requirements of the Mining Act, hut tlie company is aniioua to provide employment as quiekly aa »oasiblu for all the men in itg serTi«e.
