LOSS OF MERCHANT SHIPPING.' GERMANY SUFFERS MOST. Received 18, 12.55 a.m. London, September 17. Fair Play states that the Allies have seized and sunk 352 German merchantmen, of 853,852 gross tons, whereof Britain seized 587,47(i tons, and her allies seized 159,401 tons. The Germans iiad seized 173,941 tons of British shipping, and 3261 tons Russian. France seized 17,010 tons of Austrian. The British tonnage sunk, including the Oceanic, and many trawlers, is 105,521.
THE GERMAN FLEET. PREPARING TO ATTACK RUSSIA. Received 19, 12.53 a.m. Petrograd, September 17. Kronstadt papers opine that the main German fleet is preparing to operato against Russia. GERMAN CRUISER ACTIVE. Auckland, Last Night. News has been received in Auckland that the Harison liner Diplomat, of 7600 tons, with £250,000 worth of cargo, was sunk in the Bay of Bengal by the German cruiser Em'den.
