NEW PUBLIC WORKS OFFICER. By Telegraph.—i Per Press Association. Wellington, September dl. An important appointment which has just been made" by the Public Service Commissioner is that of stores manager to the Public Works Department. The position has been conferred upon Mr. R. E. Hcrron, who has been manager of the hardware department in the firm of C. A. Odlin and Co. since the company was formed seven years ago. The position of stores manager is a new one, created in view of the large expenditure oi the Public Works Department in stores, something like £250,000 a year. It wi 1 he the dutv of the new manager to look into the whole stores system and to assist in revising and placing it on a ■better footing and in takmg general control of stores administration. Ale will relieve the under-sccretary and the cngineer-in-chief of a great deal of detail work. In addition, the stores manager will supervise the Departments storekeepers throughout the Dominion, and, as time permits, he will make periodical tours of inspection.
