London 'financially is more cheerful, owing to better war news. Many people previously anxious to sell shares are; waiting for better times. Wheat—Quiet and unchanged; Australian, landed, 48s. By TeJegrapb.—Press Association. Wellington, September 12. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable from the High. Commisisoner, dated London, September 10:—Very little is doing in the hide trade. The average price for New Zealand hides is S'/j, the quotation being nominal. Quotations for sheepskins at the last sale, held on July 30, are: Merino, full-woolled, 7'/od to *9%<l. shorn 4V-.il to "'/od; crossbred, fine B%d to ll%d, coarse B'/,d to 10% d, shorn Sd to i)d. The present quotations are not reliable. There have been only a few private sales since that date, and the tendency is downward. The next will be held on September 17. It is anicipated by brokers that a considerable fall in prices is likely to occur, from Id to l'/jd, especially so in the ease of shorn. I sill cable thfe result. At the tallow sale, which tonk place on September 0, there was fair demand for better grades, kit there was no demand for poorer grades. There were 1-100 barrels offered .and 500 pieces or barrels sold. First-class quality mutton brought 375, beef 31s, medium quality 34s to 31s, inferior 27s to 26s Od. AUCKLAND MARKETS.
