'Eye-witnesses report that the Russian advance in Galieia was first preceded by the wholesome flight of the people. They soon learnt better, and displayed the greatest friendliness, welcoming the troops with open arms. There were processions of priests- with banners and crosses. Women brought provisions and declined payment. A thanksgiving service was held throughout Russia to celebrate the reunion with Galieia, where Count Bobrinsky has been appointed GovernorGeneral. The majority 0 f the Russian regiments march and carry the Czar's portrait, the men carrying it in turns. FURTHER RUSSIAN VICTORY. Petrograd, September 8. The Russians occupied Nikolai, and the Ausjirinus are in full retreat., ' Russia has great difficulty in disposing o c her 8-2,000 Austrian prisoners. They have been sent to the interior. FRESH GERMAN FORCES ARRIVING. BIG ARMY ABOUT POSEN. London, September 8. The Daily News' iPetrograd correspondent says that many German aeroplanes are appearing on the Russian frontier, heralding the. arrival of reinforcements. There is a large German force in the Posen district. BOMB-DROrPING AT VALIEVO. Petrograd, September 8. An Austrian aeroplane flew over Valievo, throwing two bombs in the town.: One fell on the Red Cross hosi pital. The bombs were of an old type ■ and did no damage. SUCCESSFUL FIGHTIA'G IN SILESIA. ■Petrograd, September 8. Altogether twelve Austrian divisions hove now been completely destroyed near Lcmberg. Another Austrian army which was operating on the Krasnystav front of the Lublin district (Poland) sustained serious losses and is now on the defensive and compelled at some points ,ti retreat. The Russians captured the strong fortifications of Nikolai (Silesia), where the guns were mounted in armored en- < polas. The fort, guns and a quantity of ammunition were seized. , HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The. High Commissioner cabled from London yesterday:— It is officially staled that the Russians, moving with irresistible force, captured DikolarclT, a triple-ringed fortress in Galieia, and are striving to cut off the remaining Austrian army.
