There have been persistent rumors lor a fortnight that a large force of Russians, via Archangel, traversed England and landed on the Continent. The idea is ridiculed locally, owing to the magnitude of the alleged force, but a Berlin 1 telegram published in Rome states that a Russian force has landed in France.

THE NEWS CONFIRMED. Received 9, 0.15 p.m. New York, September S. St. Rauss, a former Minister in Turkey, has arrived. He states that it is undoubted that Russian forces have reached Antwerp, through England. AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. The High Commissioner cabled yesterday from London:— A Rome newspaper of high standing states that a Russian army of a quarter jof a million men is in France. There is no confirmation bere.
