am. J. H. HEMPTON.
General regret will bo felt at the fatal tenmnation of the accident which happened to <Mir. J. Hi Hempton, Collector of Oustonis, on Saturday night, when he unconsciously got in fronlt of a motor car in Powderham street, waa knocked down, and had three ribs broken, besides sustaining other injuries. 'He was progressing very satisfactorily unal Tuesday morning, wihen he bccaime delirious, arnd the end came at aibout 2 a.m. yesterday. Deceased waa a 'son oi the late Captain i'hos. Hempton, who lor many years was town cleric of New Plymouth. Joining the Ouatonis service in 1879, lie had a large experience, coming to New Plymouth in 1903. As a ruiMicr he Md an unbeaten Australasian record for the 100 yds, twt, failed in hi,? efforts when competing in England. Of late ihis health has not been of a robust nature, and th!is probably . prevented him withstanding the severe shock caused by his accident. He took a prominent ipart in 'the "West End foreshore improvements, was a worker in rUlio Taranaki JOckey Cluib, a 'keen golfer, and was universally respected and esteemed. The greatest sympathy is felt for his widow and only daughter. The laito Mr. Hempton's brother Thomas was a victim of the South African war, and the Hempton Hall at Okato, was eretited as a memorial . An: inquest will (be held at the court/house this afternoon.
