SPORTING.

THE BANGITLKEI MEETING.

XOTES BY "MOTUROA."

■ "Afoturoa" telegraphed from Wanganui last night:-

The war doe 3 not appear likely to affect the Marton spring meeting. "Moturoa'' was in Marton to-day, and the toivn is full of sports. The Railway Department reports the greatest number of horses ever railed through for a spring meeting. The course is very hard, but tne sky is overcast, and it is just possible that light rain may fall to-night, which will improve the going. The horses most discussed for the various events are:—Hack Hurdles, Paxawanui and St. Gate; Maiden Handicap, Mia Cara and Rosatys; Railway Handicap, Pariform and Lady Louisa; Hunt Cup Steeples.' Riro Atu awl Bonny; Marton Handicap, Portraiture and Master Lupin; Electric Handicap, King Oliira; Hack Steeples, Silver Monarch; Tutaenui Welter, Montana and Epvrorth. Taranaki sports are here in good numbers, and appear sanguine of King Cliira's chances.

The fields promhn to be large, anil the railing very interesting.
