Advices have been received that three German steamers, the Furth, 'Australia, and Moltkefels were captured by tlw East India squadron and taken to Colombo.
THE PATRIOTIC FUNDS. Received 1, 9.40 p.m. Sydney, September 1. The Lord , Mayor's fund totals £60,000, and the War Food Fund £21,000.
Adelaide, September 1. The Racing Club lias donated £SOO to the Patriotic Fund.
PATRIOTIC RACING CLUB.
Melbourne, September 1
The Victoria Racing Club has obtained authority to increaso the admission charges for the spring meeting in aid of the patriotic fund, which, it is anticipated, will benefit to the extent of over £3OOO.
THOUSANDS RENDERED IDLE. Sydney September 1
Mr Cann 'estimates that 13,000 men are rendered idle in New South Wales owing to the war, besides many working half-time. H« is arranging to absorb them on public works. Recruiting proceeds unabated. The New South Wales first contingent is practically complete.
Amongst a host of gifts accepted for the expeditionary force are many chargers, drafts of sheep, and an aeroplane. I Interest in Saturday's Federal elocutions is reviving. The manifestos of Ajeoi.ro Cook, and Fisher have been bnragbt to tile front.
