Daily Chronicle's Antwerp corre. spondent, after a personal visit to Malinesj says that the reports of the damage done were greatly exaggerated, though thousands of windows were smashed, and 70 houses practically destroyed during the three days' bombardment. He adds: "The streets are deserted, the remaining inhabitants taking refuge in underground passages which extend in all directions. He found 200 old men and women in a dark, wet passage, stretched trembling on mattresses in a veritable frenzy of terror, believing that the Germans were coming to kill them. The German terrorist policy had evidently been thoroughly successful."
THE SACKING OF LOUVAIN. ; SYSTEMATIC BURNING OF HOUSES. ESCAPING RESIDENTS SHOT. Received 1, 7.45 p.m. London, August 31 (evening). An Oxford undergraduate, who was present at the sack of Louvain, states that when he entered the town on Friday morning the greater part of the town was ablaze, houses were tumbling into the streets, and Germans looking [in the ruins. Dead littered the streets. At that time the Hotel de Ville was intact, officers stating that it was intended to preserve it. lAt Cortenburg he witnessed the systematic burning of houses, in revenge for the inhabitants firing on Uhlans. He saw five civilians shot when escaping from burning dwellings.

Eye-witn"sses state that the natives of Vise wlio escaped shooting have now been forced to build a road connecting Vise with Aix-la-Oiapelle. The Germans art still burning whole streets at Liegs on the slightest provocation. Germans recently shot the terrified inhabitants of three burning streets, killing 15. In one case, a boy of seven years was shot because he pointed a toy gun at German soldiers. Incidents frequently arise of drunken Germans firing their rifles, accusing the inhabitants, and then burning and murdering commences.

The Express correspondent at The Hague reports that four of the richest ttien in Belgium, Messrs Solway, Alkali, King and Lambert, representative of the Rothschilds in Belgium, and M. Waroque, a mine-owner, and Baron Empain, railway magnate, have guaranteed to Geraiany the payment of the eight millions war levy on Brussels, otherwise Brussels will be treated as the Germans
treated Louvain. Big guns hare already been mounted in the Place du Oongres, in front of the Palace of Justice.

A Belgian mission, consisting of MM. Dewiart (Minister of Justice), Vaandcrvelde (the Socialist leader), and Ilyinan (the 'Liberal leader) are visiting London. Tlioy thence proceed to New York to acquaint Washington with tlio cruelties committed by the Germans, and also wt protest against the destruction of Louvain by bombardment.
