ENGLISH LADIES DEFEAT WAXGA- ( NUI. By Telegraph—Pres? Association.. Wanganui, Last Night. The touring hockey team of English ladies met, the local team this afternoon. The weather was line, and tus attendance fair. Wanganui was outclassed at every noint of the. gam;', and beaten by nine goals to one! The visitors played a fast, open game, giving a splendid exposition of hockey. u n d showing excellent combination. Some good, fast individual play among tlve local ladies was witnessed, but the team lacked' combination and skill. The members of the English Indies' team, which has only bt-n defeated once in New Zealand, will arrive in New Plymouth this evening from Wanganui. for to-morrow's match with; Taranaki ladies. Although the visitors have inflicted defeats on the majori.lv of their opponents by substantial margins, there are not wanting keen enthusiast* who consider that the Taranaki girls' will extend them.
