SOUTHLAND 20 v. SOUTH' CANTERBURY 5. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Tiinaru, Last Night. J Southland beat South Canterbury -by 20 points to 5- The game was played in a thkik fog. The h'i-A of the local men are away in camp. THE JUNIOR PLAY-OFF. WON BY HAWERA. At Stratford yesterday, Hawera defeated Tukapa in the play-off for tho junior provincial championship by five points to three. Hawera, playing with a strong wind in their favor, scored and converted in the first spell, play being principally confined to the forwards. Ju the second spell the wind dropped slightly, and early in the' spell Stohr scored from a passing rusli, West failing to convert. The same player bad several shot at goal from penalty kicks, but none were successful. The game was a fairly even one, Hawera having the advantage in the forward division, where their weight told. Titkapa backs were somewhat disorganised owing to the absence of their centre half, Lovcridge. Puller, onje of the Tukapa backs, at the finish of a passing rush, endeavored to hurdle an opponent and was brought down violently, receiving injury to his brcast-bohe. Mr. 0. West referecd impartially. The Taranaki team, which is to play Auckland, at Auckland, to-morrow, went north last night by the Rarawa. The following made the trip:—George, Stohr, Cameron, Wells, Roberts, Brown, Colman, Taylor, Cain, Whittington, Kissick, Young, Robertson, Paul. iPatterson, Rowland's, McCook, Borntscn and Abbott. Mr. A. L. Humphries goes as manager. C. Whittington, the Stratford threequarter, was unable to make the trip.
