OBITUARY.

THE LATE MR HAMERTON. There passed away on Tuesday, at Inglewood, anotihier of the fast-thinning band of veterans in tlhe person of Mr L. A. Hamerton, of Burnlea. The late Mr Hamerton was born ot 'Hollins Hali', near 'Burnley, Lancashire, in, 1832, and on leaving school wais articled to Messrs Alexander and Hamerton (uncle and father), barristers, and with them served four years of thte necessary articles, wflien the spirit of adventore overtook him, and he sailed for Australia in 1852, where he went into the interior on to a sihcep run, but on 'the rest of the family coming .to New Zealand he came across Ihiere, landing in New Plymouth early, in, 18.w,''andhas never been out qf New Zealand since. He followed farm'ing poi'sniitj at Bell Block until the outbreak of the war in 1860, when the narives cleared the farm of 9toek and made the farm •uninhabitable. He went through* the North TaramaM" war, in which lie obtained the New Zealand war medal, but did no: go to the disturbances in South Taranaki and Nukumaru, but on peace being declared at New Plymouth went back to 'the legal fraternity for many years, coming back once more to a nival life at Inglewood, where he spent, the last portion of his life. The late Mr Hamerton MI O-i very trying times during the last years of his'life, going totally Wind, and thus rendering him unable to get about or even amuse himself with a book. "He, nctwithstandinicr. enjoyed excellent health and bore his cross with a resignati >•, very randy found amongst men, no word of rebellion ever escaping his lips. His end came somewhat suddenly, as he was in his usual state of health until Sunday, when he suffered an attack of bronchitis .a,n<l piicuironm supervening, he passed away peacefully and quietly, simply ceasing to brent!!*.
