The Canterbury team again indulged in very useful practice yesterday, and are feeling very confident of lifting the Shield this afternoon. Their team is a very strong one, possibly one of the strongest teams that has ever left Ohriatchurch. Several members of the Taranaki team arrived in New Plymouth last night and the remainder will arrive by the train this morning. Owing to the lato arrival of the Australian steamer, it was found impossible to get Roberts, Cain and Loveridge up to New Plymouth in time to take part in the match. Stohr, whose name was accidentally omitted from yesterday's list of, players, will be available this afternoon, and a fairly strong side will be placed in the field. One or two new men may be included, but if so, they can be relied upon to make the old hands move if they wish to keep up with them. The Taranaki team will not be chosen until this morninj,. Canterbury will be represented by the following:— Full back: Henry. Three-quarter backs: McLeod; Boag, Guthrie. Five-eighths: Croucher and Gray. Half-back: Amodeo. Wing forward: Carnegie. Forwards: Front row, Hasell and Hegarty; second row, W. Cuimmingß, Fanning (lock), Symie - third row, E. Cummings and Maxwell. THE AUCKLAND MATCH. By the Rarawa, which makes the trip to-night instead of to-morrow night, the Taranaki team will journey to Auckland to play the annual match with the northerners. Memories of the stirring struggle last year, which resulted in Taranaki lifting the Shield, arc sufficient guarantee that a record crowd will witness the match. THE JUNIOR PLAY-OFB'. Mr. 0. West has been appointed referee in the play-off for the junior provincial championship between Tukapa and Hawera juniors at Stratford to-day.
