Received 17, 10.50 p.m. St. Petersburg, August 18.The first German infantry division on Thursday and Friday attacked the Russian front at Eydtkuhneii, and were repulsed after an artillery engagement. Many women, principally Cossacks, are applying for service in the ranks. The Dowager-Empress reached St. Petersburg, having travelled by a circuitous route. She was accorded a great reception. The previous reports from Switzerland were circulated as a blind to her real movements.
