' & By Telegraph—Press Association ' '■■', v Palmerston North, last night -i ■Before Jl r Justice Edwards at th* 5 bupreme Court to-day, Lydia Schultt i was acquitted on a charge of murdering her infant dlii.d in April or 'May last. The Judge severely crijeised tlu police for o.tracting a statement from the girl. Summincr up, the Judge said ther© wa s really no evidence on which •' the jury couid convict, except thai of the police, and he was of opinion that the _detective had secured the evidence by bouncing" the woman. Certainly a baby had been born, but the accused did not know, owing to the state of mind she ww in at the time. The jury returned a vurdict of not guilty.
