FATAL COLLIEION
BETWEEN iMOTOR-CYCLE AND MOTOR-CAR. By Telegraph—Press Association. i Timaru, August 14. [ A fatality occurred about 9.30 this rooming. Colonel Haynurst and Mr. R. R. Martin (of the Temuica Leader) were motoring into Timiaru when, on reaching Washdyke, they tried to dodge a boy on the roud. A motorcyclist, Pat O'Connor, who was going out from Timaru, was akj dodging him, and the result was a frightful collision between the car and motorcycle. The car overturned and Colonel Hayhurst was thrown out and killed itotantftneously, his iskull and face being smashed. O'Connor was found among the wreckage of the car and cycle. He was seriously injured on the he; it and was unconscious. Mr. R. R. Martin was formerly Reform organiser, and is will known in Taranaki. Timaru, Last Night. A great shock was caused in the community by the death of Colonel Hayhurst, Mayor of Temuka. The circumstances were particularly painful. He was imotoring into Timaru to see off two of his sons to the War. The exact extent of Mr. Martin's injuries are not yet known. The cyclist, O'Connor, is well-known as the agent of the International Harvester Co. Ho was considerably hurt, and was taken to his 'home at Timaru. Mrs. Hay-hurst is in a private hospital at Auckland after au operation, and was expected to be home in a fortnight. A third son is fanning at Paeroa, Auckland. Colonel Harhurst was 54 years of age, and was a native of South Canterbury.
