At a largo ;'... . eiiLhusiastic public meeting last nig..,, a resolution was carried pledging i~,. t - inhabitants of Hastings and "the surrounding districts to assist tUie Empire with men, money and goods till the end of the war. Donations totalling £2oot) were promised in the room. Numerous offers of horses, equipment and fodder were also received. Patriotic speeches were made by prominent citizens. The meeting concluded with the National Anthem, and cheers for the King. The Citizens' War Fund has reached nearly £3OOO. NAPIER'S FIRST INSTALMENT. Napier, August 13. Napier has forwarded its first instalment of £4OOO to the Patriotic Fund. DUNEDIN SUBSCRIPTIONS. Dunedin, August 13. The Westport Coal Co. have given £IOOO, Herbert Haynes and Co, ana Hallenstein Bros., each £SOO to the Patriotic Fund. LETTERS FOR TROOPERS. Wellington, August 13. Mails for the members of the advance party of the expeditionary force will be despatched from Wellington when opportunity offers. Letters should be addressed to Wellington, and should show the rank and name of regiment in which serving, "advance party, New Zealand Expeditionary Force," and name of troopship on which embarked, if known. General Godley inspected the advance detacliment ithis morning. NATIONAL RESERVE. Auckland, August 13. Five hundred men enrolled this morning in the national reserve. They are an exceptionally fine type of men. Many have served in engagements in various parts of the world. They include a few Americans. FOOTBALLERS FOR THE FRONT. Wellington, August 13. Volunteering has had a marked effect on the football teams. The Wellington team, which was leading with Athletic for tlhc senior cup, have ten chosen for I the advance party. The club's committee has been wiped out. The secretary, treasurer and executive have; gone. The Athletic junior sent all except one member, and other clubs are well represented. THE CARTERTON FUNDS. Carterton,' August 13. There are two subscription lists circulating in Carterton, the Lady Liverpool fund and a fund to equip" an expeditionary force. The former lias so far raised £7O and tlhe latter £530, besides quanties of fodder, etc. There was an enthusiastic send-oil' jestcrd-iy to '.20 volunteers. EKETAHUNA HELPS. Eketahuna, August 13. At an enthusiastic meeting of borough and country residents yesterday, £350 was promised in the room for the expeditionary fund. The equipment fund raised .by the ladies is growing rapidly. b
