VETERANS' ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING. ' At the annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the Veterans' Association on Saturday, Colonel Ellis, vice-president, presided over a good attendance. The balance-sheet for the past year, showing a credit of £9 10s 3d, was adopted. Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing year:—Vice-president of the branch, Colonel Ellis (re-elected); delegates, Lieutenant Humphries and Mr. 11. Ardern; secretary, Captain Black; treasurer. Captain McKellar; auditor, Mr. W. F. Brooking; committee, Captain Mace, Messrs R. Wells, W. Humphries, J. ICenyon, G. A. Adlam, F. Ollivcr and O. Oxenham.
It was decided to liold a general meeting early in February to consider what steps should be taken to celebrate W'aireka Day It was decided to hold a church parade on September 6, in commemoration of the officers who fell in the engagement at Te Ngutu-o-te-Manu. A proposal was submitted and approved to hold a shooting match during the summer. , The secretary was voted the usual honorarium of £lO for his services during the past year. It was decided to present Mr. Walker, who attends most of the funerals of the veterans and sounds the "Last Post," with a new bugle.
It was decided that in future the minimi meetings be held at 2 o'clock in stead 'of 2.30.
