FIRE ON THE WANAKA.

CARGO DAMAGED. liv Telegraph—Pres.' Association, Napier, August 4. A lire broke out on tine Wanaka on the voyage; from Timaru to Napier near the surface of the hold, but was subdued after ton,-iderable damage had been done to the cargo by water.

The fire on the Wanaka was discovered when mi t. r. Prompt measures were taken to locate the seat o: Llie lire, and the hold was deluged. The cargo (the greater portion for Auckland) was damaged, hut the extent of the damage will not be known until the vessel is inspected by the adjusters at Auckland. Tin; vessel was not damaged. and left for Auckland this afternoon.
