SOLICITOR ARRESTED.
ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF TRUST FUNDS. Per Press Association. OhristcJiureii, Last Night. A considerable sensation was cause'l in the city yesterday afternoon, when it became known that a prominent barrister and solicitor, Mr. Thomas Maude, had been arrested on a charge of misappropriation of trust moneys at 1.30 p.m. The charge on which lie was apprehended was that during the month of July, 1010, at Christchurch, he did receive from Thomas Derenzy Harmon the sum of £IOSO on terms requiring him. xo account for or pay the same to one Wizabeth Harnett, and that he did fraudulently convert the same to his own use. The information was laid by Directive Regan and the warrant was signed by Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M. The arrest was made verv quietly. The accused man, when approached b\< the dcta'tivos, expressed some surprise. When informed that t'hey were arresting him on the charge he made no sign of resistance, and walked with the detectives to the police'station. Late in the afternoon Maude appeared before Mr II W. Bishop, S.M., and was formally dharged, Bail was granted in the sum ot £IOOO, and two sureties of £IOOO each.
