Dr. Reakes stated that the principal alterations to the quarantine regulations provided that horses imported from Canada and the United States of America would now undergo twenty-eight days quarantine instead of fourteen days; cattle from America, the importation of which, was formerly prohibited. , wou.d now be admitted and quarantined , for sixty days. Oatte from New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia would undergo ninety days' qarantine instead of forty, the last fifty days of which the animals would be. allowed, if thought advisable, to spend on the importer's property under departmental supervision. There had been an outbreak of pneumonia among the cattle of New South Wales and Victoria, hence the extra precaution. Sheep from Great Britain would be quarantined for twenty-eight days, instead of forty; pigs for forty days, instead of aixt/; and dogs for sixtv days, instead of sis months. A. reduction had been made in the maintenance charges as follows: Cattle, from Is Cd to Is per night; pigs , under two months, no charge, instead of 3d per night; sheep, from one to ten in number, 3d per head per night, instead of (id; over ten, -2d instead of -Id: dog-,, 4d, intend of fid.
