MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Wednesday. There was an unusually good attendance. After the opening routine, a financial statement was giveo. by tho treasurer, when it was found that the state of the Union's funds was healthy. Delegates were called for to attend the District Convention, to be held at Manaia on August sth. The president was instructed to write the District Convention to meet in New Plymouth in 1915. Mr. Hal Goodacre addressed the meeting on some important points in connection with the coming poil. The aitonishing statement was made that it was known that four hundred sympathisers failed to record, their votes at tin last poll/ and a large number of these gave very feeble reasons for not doing so This, he said, should burn into every temperance worker's brain a determination to be up and doing and looking ?fter those—women especially—who did not see the seriousness of careless ,V wasting their vote. If they would only think of tlio workers in the different organisation- who were working themselves into early graves to give them a chance of freeing this land of the. drink temptation for their boys, they certainly would go to the polling booth at every opportunity they had. and vote out "the drink trade. As the uati for the visit of Mr. Sheldon (author of "In His- Steps', or .What Would Jesus Do.") is not quite verified, the setting up of the committee to provide a large tea for that occasion, wws left until August 12th, when members are asked to meet in the lodge-room to arrange for ii. Mr. Sheldon is supposed to visit New Plymouth on or about September 10th. Tt was also stated that Mr. and Mrs. Philip Rnowdcii, from England, would visit New Plymouth sometime in October—Contributed.
