THE TRAMWAYS.
A CONTRACT. LET. Last evening a contract wa, signed for the installation of the overhead equipment and permanent way for the New Plymouth tramway system—one of the three contracts for which the New Plymouth Borough Council recently called tenders. The successful tenderers are Messrs F S. Creeiishields and Co.. of Wellington, who installed (he tram.in Napier and Wanganui. The contract price is £35,603 13s Id, while the estimate of the consulting engineer (Mr, V. Phuk) made two years ago. w;i- ill'.filO. The contract price h considered very -atisfactoiy, in view of the ri-e in prices o! metal and other material dining the past two years. The work ha* to be completed within fourteen mouth' <■' the date of signing the contract. The consulting engineer has furni.-hed to the Council a report on the. tender- for this contract, which will he available republication today. There are. of course, two other contracts in connection with the work, tenders for which are sti'l under consideration. They compris.' the supply oi cars and the equipment of tic- necessary sub-station.
