Caillaux) stole her husband from her. She maintained that the letters contained nothing in ' regard to polities, and nothing of public interest, or justifying fear of publi- ' cation, so as to drive Madame Caillaux { to interview Calmette. Witness refused M. Che-mi's and M. Labori's appeal e to deliver up the photographs and letters, but later handed in the letters to f the judge. '' The spectators cheered her action. f
TWO WOMEN IN THE CASE. . Times and Sydney Sun Services. Received 24, 5.5 p.m. Paris, July 24. Interest in the trial height at the appearance of Madame fineydan, M. Caillaux's first wife. She bitterly recounted Caillaux's laison with his'present wife, and described Caillaux abjectly humiliating himself to such an extent that she consoled with him. Even in his tears he did not speak the truth. Every imaginable ' subject except Madame Caillaux's guilt was discussed, including diplomatic, financial and domestic matters. Explosive outbursts between M. Caillaux and M. Clieni, counsel for the Calmette family, provoked applause and derision.' The judge threatened to clear the court.
The editor of the Journal gave evidence that Madame Gueydan, formerly Madame Caillaux, offered him M. Caillaux's private letters, which he refused. Madame Gueydan, in her evidence, admitted taking letters from her husband's study for the purposes of her divorce suit.
