Explosive outbursts between M. Caillaux and M. Clieni, counsel for the Calmette family, provoked applause and derision.' The judge threatened to clear the court.

The editor of the Journal gave evidence that Madame Gueydan, formerly Madame Caillaux, offered him M. Caillaux's private letters, which he refused. Madame Gueydan, in her evidence, admitted taking letters from her husband's study for the purposes of her divorce suit.
