LONDON WOOL SALES. By Caible.—Press Association. —Copyright London, July 23. At the wool sales the following prices were realised for the fleece portions of New Zealand clips named.—"Piripiri," top, 12y 2 d average 11%; "Niksm," 12d and ll%d; "Wakarna," 12d and lid; "Monte," lid and 10% d. There nas been sold 88 500 bales, of which the Continent took 34,000, and the United States 17,000, and 7000 tales are held over. ! f\ Competition increased throughout the sales, and values for all sorts have reached the level of the boom period in. IWK). Compared with the May closing pricesj, -merinos advanced 5 to Vk per cent., fancy prices being paid. During ooniipusliory tjpoirations crosAreds enjoyed a remarkable widening competition. Fine to mediumii New Zealand crossbreds advanced by y 2 d to Id; coarse meat, par to five per centum advance; scoureds, 5 per cent.; slips, at par; medium coarse, par to %d! decline. Merino lambs were unchanged, and crossbreds opened at 1 / 2 dto Id decline, j Superior recovered May values, but faulty did not improve on the opening prices.
The Bank of New Zealand lias re-' ceived the following cable advices from its London office: —The sales have closed firm for all kinds of wool. There is an active demand by all branches of tlie trade. Total quantity held over, 8000 bales, of which 7000 bales are New Zealand. Current prices for North Island farmers' lots: —Coarse crossbreds 30/40*8, lid to Ily 2 d per lb; medium crossbred, 44/46's, ll%d to 12>/ 2 d per lb. Current prices for South Wand farmers' lots: — Inferior merinos, 60/04's, 12d to 12y 2 d per lb; superior merinos, 60/64's, 14d to 15%; % and y 4 -I>red, 60/04's, U%d to 15'/ 2 (1.
WEBSTER BROS.' REPORT. Poultry.—Considerable numbers of poultry of all classes continue to come to hand each Saturday and prices are being well maintained. On Saturday a good line of White Leghorn pullets brought 3s lOd, others and crossl)reds 2s 3d to 3s, laying hens 2s to 2s 4d, young hens for table purposes Is Cd to 2s 2d, cockerels for killing 2s to 2s Hd, ducks Is lid to 2s2d, fat drakes, a good line of 40, Is '.ld to Is lid, turkey hens 4s to 5s (id.gobblcrs (is fid to 7s !)d. Furniture and sundries are now selling well in the mart, the removal of all reserves having caused quite a good attendance at these silcs. and our mart is always cleared right out on Saturdays.
Clearing Sale.—On Tuesday we held a very successful sale of Mr. F.Cassidv's slock and implements. Some uf the cows were a trifle late, but anything forward met a good sale; 18-20-months In-iters dairy cows, £3 10s to £l2; horses, £6 to £2O; rubber-tyred gig, £32; dogcart, £8 10s; spring drav. £S: discs, £ -15s; If.H. S.F. Plough, £3 ss; and sundries at usual prices.
Fruit.—Supplies of \Yw Zealand fruit for tin' week arrived in fair quantities, and generally in first-class condition. On account of shortages in past seasons during winter months, growers are realising the wisdom of holding certain quantities for Xew Zealand consumption, and with far more satisfactory results than by export. Competition -was keen, and prices showed an advance of ten shillings per head. Quotations: —Best bullocks, to £H 10s; oxtra, to £ls 10s; medium, to £ll 15s; light and unfinished, to £0; prime hoifeis. to £lO 10s; extra, to £l4 10s: others, £7 to £8 10s. Store cattle.—Bulls, to .CO; cows, to £0; vealers, £4 2s; dairy cows, to £7 10s; calves, to £1 14s.
Fat sheep.—2oo(l penned, consisting chiefly of good quality wethers, with a lew pens of medium to good ewes. Freezing buyers were operating freely, and taken all over the prices were about on a par with last week's rates. Quotations:—Prime wethers,-21s to 275; extra, to 335; medium to good, 22s to 235; light and unfinished, 20s (id to 21s (id; prime ewes, to 255; extra, to 2(is; medium, to 20s; others, 12s to 15s.
