In connection with the Evelei"h holdup charges, tli- woman Kelly, who win arrested with R.an in Melbourne gave evidence that about the time o'f the robbery she. was frequently in the company of Ryan and Freeman in Svdney. Ryan had plenty of money and presented nor with considerable sums,, jewcllerv, and other valuable articles. They had champagne suppers. Ryan then departed for Melbourne, she subsequently joining him. He told her he intended to stay for a short time and then go to America, adding that she would never want money as he had monev to burn. In Melbourne, Ryan met Taikiner and ottler men and handed over to one of them, a bundle of notes. Another bundle was put in a jar behind the fireplace where she and Ryan were staying, the police afterwards discovering thorn. Wl en the police came to arrest Ryan. I he jumped out of bed and seized an automatic pistol. .She advised him not to shoot, as that woTild only make things worse. He did not attempt to shoot. On the way to Sydney under arrest. Ryan told her to toil the truth. [ Amongst the letters found in the house where Ryan was arrested, and which were identified as in his handwriting, one was to a man named Brown, stating that he had received a call from another quarter which looked like a Cakewalk foT a nice little roll, running to four figures. Another was to Falkiner, stating that he was sending a parcel of goods and asking to keep it intact until he arrived, and adding: "You can guess what the contents will be."

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Received 23, 8 p.m. Sydney, July 23. Each of the accused was commited for trial. Bail was fixed for Twiss and Tatham at £IOOO each. Freeman did not apply, and Ryan's application was refused, the Crown Prosecutor stating that only £3OO of tlie. £3300 had been recovered. If bail were allowed,' the money might be gecflred.
