The Public Prosecutor, on behalf of the Government, announced that the diplomatic paper 9 mentioned yesterday were only copies of alleged documents which were non-existent. M. Prestat, M. Calmette's father-in-lsw, admitted destroying the Fabre report and the "Thy Jo" letters' which were found in M. Calniette's pocketbook, which were copies of 11. Cail'aux'a allegations that the Figaro was in the pay of foreign banks of Germany. M. Client, a barrister representing the Figaro, accused M. Caillaux of defiling the grave dug by his own wife. This caused a sensation. M. Caillaux's evidence has concluded. A SKILFUL SHOT. . i Received 22, 11.20 p.m. Paris, July 23. M. Cheni ironically admired 11. Caillaux's cleverness in creating a diversion and turning a criminal into a political trial.
I M. Caillaux in his evidnece endeavored to show that the Dresdner Bank were large shareholders in the Figaro, and that hence the paper reflected the German Foreign Office views. A gunsmith gave evidence that Madame Caillaux tried the revolver at the shooting gallery before purchasing it, and hit a figure target three times out of six shots.
