A committee was set up to go into the matter with the directors and tile expert who lias been engaged to select t!ie most suitable site. It is understood that the directors and the expert will be in New Plymouth next week-. GENERAL. At the Magistrate's Court \-cster<lav, before Mr. W. G. K. Kenrlck, S.M.. Prior to giving evidence in a defence ease at the court yesterday morning Sergeant ISonar said that he wished to apoiogise to the Magistrate for the noise that was made when he left the court last week. The draught, lie said, caught the door, and as his hands were full of papers it slammed before he could stop it. The Magistrate said that the remark had been made in a general way. The door had slammed t-cvera] times previously.' as weK as on that occasion, and he knew that this was caused by the draught, hut he pointed out that this door was for the use of the court, officials, and if the public used their proper entrance Hi? annoyance would not occur. Sjigt.Major ISonar said that the News it-port referred to the Defence officer, and he had a "picas" explain'' from his Department lie handed up the newspaper cutting for the Magistrate's perusal. The Magistrate re-iterated that the remark was made generally, and did not appiy specially to the Defence officer. In response to a request for time in which to pav a fine for a breach of flic IM-neo Act. Mr. W. S. K, Konriek. P.Af., stated yesterday that he was r.ither dubious about allowing time, as in the majoritv of cases the whole procedure of the 'court had to he invoked to get the money, and when the warrant to lak.i the defaulter into custodywas served the money would b" produced, thus showing that it was- held in readiness all the time. Soon he would probaKy be compelled to make a rule that Hie fine must be paid at once, or the defendant ordered into custody. The Masonic hall on Thursday evening was a pronounced success. The X-raire faefm-v's bonus to he paid out to-dav amounts to £304-1, and that ( of the Cardiff factory 1:1311.
