This will 'bring the average paid for butter-fat for the year to 12.41 d per lb. The quality of the butter has been well maintaine i. Y r ou will note by the ba'anee-shoct that the water bore at the factory has cost £517 lis 7d to the end of the financial year. This has co-it far more than the directors anticipated, and has been caused by the difficult formation of the country met with. It is hoped that a sufficient supply of water will be obtained for the company's requirements. At the request of a number of shareholders a precipitating plant for obtaining the curd for casein niamfracture from the skim milk was installed at Toko creamery, the shareholders interested taking up the necessary shares U> cover the cost. Shipping charges are considerably increased on account of the extra expense in loading and railing, caused by the late strike. Fortunately, the policy of the directors has been to keep large stocks of fuel on hand to meet emergencies of thi-i kind, otherwise the position would have teen awkward and expensive. More fortunately, the directors having sold the whole of the output at the commencement of the season at a satisfactory figure, our returns were not affected Iv the slump on the London market can-ed by the regular shipping service being -disorganised by the strike/ The retiring directors are Messrs. A. Lehmami, K. Mar.M) and (.J. Sangster. wlio are eligible )'<•,• re-election. Mr. Mar fell does not seek re-election. ~\lr. T. 11. Penn again offers his services as auditor.—Ji. Dingle, chairman.
AN INCORRIGIBLE ROGUE. | The manner in which members of the public, in general and clergymen in I particular are often Jed to 'give a-- ! sistauce to undeserving cases was com- ! mented on by Mr. W. tl. K. Kenrick. j S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yester- j day morning, when a man who' called ' himself Arthur We.-.ton was brought ! b-foic the Court on a charge of drunk ennes-. He pleaded guilty, ami asked for a chance to go to a job which he had at Ingle wood. vSergt. McNcely remarked that accused had been in (own a few day-, and had gone under various name-\. Mich as Campbell, and Cameron, and had goiv round to various peop'c. including minsters, begging. The Magistrate asked the prisoner. "Are von not the I man who appeared before 'me at Ila- | wera a fortnight ago on a similar charge under the name -of Campbell/ Accused at fir.-t denied this, but on the Magistrate pushing home his (pier l / and reminding him that he had afterwards interviewed the Pre-lrylcrian mininler and hinisc/f. and had promised to conn' to iSergl. McNccly on arrival at Stratford and endeavour to secure work, and also to apply for a prohibition order, he ' admitted his identity. At Uawcra ac- I cased admitted to the Magistrate that he lias a "record," ami the Magistrate ' remarked that this was the wav to cail I attention to himself. He .stood the ca.-r down a while, so that the 'We. cord" eouhl be looked into. 1,;,t,.r in : the morning Sergt. MeXecly said that ', the man bad 21 convictions apain-l. I him in the name of Cameron. These included one of being a rogue am! ! vagabond at Auckland, when a prohibition order was issued against him; and this was still in for-e.' Aeeii-cd again asked for another chance, but "the Magistrate said that he had not availed himself of the chance at llawera, but had lied in cverv Wav. A man who ! played the fool with people who hclp"d him deserved no con-.ideration. For the benefit of others, the Stipendiary Magistrate remarked that wh"u any one came to him for assistance, he always j asked the enquirer to return next -lav. 1 and that in the meantime lie would I make enquiries.
