SOCIAL DEMOCRATS.

The first annual conference of the So'cial Democratic Party opened to-day. Delegates representing seventy-five affiliated organisations were in attendance. Mr. H. Hunter .(Ghristchureh East) occupied the chair. It was unanimously resolved to invite the Social Democratic Party members of Parliament to attend the conference. The report stated that contributions had bben received from a membership of 7000, and this had increased since the report had been drafted. The conference unanimously decided to present to Parliament a petition already signed and solicit the. co-opera-tion of the Social Democratic members in getting a division in the House on the question :j r . the release of strike prisoners.

As the sequel to the raid in Saining street two Chinese were fined £2O and .CIO respectively for being concerned in the management of a common gaming house.
