ATTEMPTED TRAIN WRECKING. ] Per Press Association. Palmcrston N. Yesterday. A sensational sequel to recent manors o' attempts to wreck the Main Trunk train by niacin# a beam across the rails at Awapuni, wa,s enacted ill the court this morning, when a. young man named John Mason was charged with wilfully placing an obstruction on the railway line between Palmei'ston and Lougliurii. Detectives Quirke and Sweeney made tin arrest on Saturday. A remand was granted to Tuesdtiy. -21st'. With men in this condition there was 110 security 1 hat- they might not. repeat, tlie offence. Mr. Poynton, S.M.. said the offence was next to murder. A hundred people might have been killed. Hail was- fixed at £IOOO and 1 two sureties of £>oo.
