MILITARY TRAINING.
SOME PROPOSED CHANGES. Captain. Stevens has returned from the conference of officers in Wellington, and states that a scheme for the re-organisation of the scheme of training on lines suggested by Sir Tan Hamilton has been drawn up. It proposes to make the organisation rather geographical than regimental. The headquarters of the 11th Ecgiment will be removed from llawera to New Plymouth, and Captain McDonnell will be in command, with a quarter-master-ser-geant and sergeant-major. Captain M'Donue.U will be responsible for the / training of all arms, including cadets, "between New Plymouth and Stratford. Similarly Captain Dovey will be responsible for the area between EUtha-m and Waverley. Captain Stevens will in future be responsible for the whole area of Taranaki, including alsr the whole of the administration and records. lie will kive the titU of Area commander, and Captain M'Donnell and Dovey will lie smb-area commanders. .Subject to the ■approval oE Parliament. i 1; is intended tli'at back-blocks men s'hall serve ten. days in camp instead of having night drills as at present.
