SEAMEN'S CONFERENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, July 9. A conference of the various New Zealand branches of the Seamen's Union will be opened in Auckland on Monday for the purpose of considering the advisability of re-organising the Seamen's Federation and making the rules of different branches uniform. The proceedings are expected to last several days. Messrs. W. T. Young and 11. Richards, the Wellington delegates, leave for Auckland on Saturday. SLY GROG SELLING. Taumarunui, July 9. David Morgan Leckic was charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning with keeping intoxicating liquor for sale. Ho did not appear and was fined £SO and costs or three months' imprisonment. AN ACCOUNTANT PROSECUTED. Wellington, July 0. The New-Zealand Society of Accountants sued Albert Hamblyn, storekeeper at Ngaruawahia, for the return of an accountancy certificate issued on the formation of the society. Hamblyn ceased to be a member of the society by reason of not paying his subscription. Repeated applications for the return of the certificate were not heeded, and action was then taken. Defendant did not appear. Mr. Riddell, S.M., ordered the certificate to be returned by : July IC, defendant to pay the costs £1 17s'6d. FEDERATION OP LABOR. Wellington, July 9. The Labor Congress this morning adopted the preamble of the recentlyformed Australian Federation of Labor. A motion that the New Zealand Federation's title of the United Federation of j Labor tfliould stand was subsequently carried on the voices.
