TUNA SCHOOL SOCIAL PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The Tuna school wag packed to overflowing on Tuesday evening, when an entertainment was given, chiefly by toe children, and the prizes gained hy the scholars were distributed by Mr. R. Masters, a member of the Education Board, who, at the request of the committee, I presided. A small, but very attractive stage had been erected and tastefully decorated, and a very good programme had been arranged, the young folks acquitting themselves most creditably, having evidently been very carefully coached by the headmaster and Miss Jones, the former giving the greater share of the credit to the latter. The following was the programme:— Overture, Miss Cockerton; song, "Tlie Flower Girl," Miss Ulla Goodwill pianoforte solo, Miss L. Kovaleski; recitation, "A Difficult Sum," Misses L. Forbes and E. 'ln a brief and aptly-worded address Mr. Masters congratulated the commit- ' tee and the children on the excellent entertainment given, and he expressed the opinion that if the result 01 the insufficiency of the capitation grant were to bring about such an enjoyable evening's entertainment it was not an unmixed evil. It was a groat pleasure to him to be present, and at any time that he could be of service by going to Tuna he would always be glad to do so. Mr. Hathaway, chairman of the School Committee, warmly thanked Mr. Masters for 'his attendance, and called for three hearty cheers for that gentleman, which were lustily given. Three cheers were also giveu for Miss Jones and Mr. Thomas. A bountiful supply of supper, which did credit to the ladies of the district, was then handed round, after which the room was cleared for dancing. Mr. Rogers, another member of the Board, had intended being present, but, much to hit regret, liad to send ail logyHOCKEY. CHAMPIONSHIP LADDER.

As soon as a sufficient supply of boulders >l?as been accumulated the borough crusher will resume work so as to provide material for metalling the roads. The work of re-metalling that has been recently carried out in Broadway North has been excellently done, and motorists are especially pleased therewith. The Scottish Society is holding a social at the Foresters' Hall to-night. If every member of the Education Board were as active in visiting echojl functions in his direct as is the case with I Mr. K. Masters, there would l>e a far 1 better feeling lwtwecn the committees and the Hoard. Motoring in a thick mist is an excit, ing experience that should approach nearly to that oPaeroplaning. A stray horse or other animai on the road, and who could'foretell the result? Truly, motoring has its charms for the intrepid in country districts, but a safe driver inspires confidence.
